Q

What is the difference between Book Hunt and Early Duck?
A
BOOK HUNT is our online book list feature. After registering for classes, you can enter in the COURSE REFERENCE NUMBERS (CRNs) for the classes you would like to look up, and a book list is generated with a corresponding price list. If you are planning to come into the campus Duck Store to purchase your books at the beginning of the term, print this list and bring it with you.

Printing this list and keeping it for your records will also give you a general idea of how much money will be charged to your credit card if you plan on reserving your textbooks online.
EARLY DUCK is our online textbook reservation program. It is not tied in with Book Hunt. You do not need to use Book Hunt if you want to reserve your textbooks online. In order to utilize Early Duck, enter the COURSE SUBJECTS, SUBJECT NUMBERS and CRNs of each of your classes into the Early Duck Reservation form. After filling in your personal, payment and billing information on a secure online form, this data will then be sent to our staff at the Literary Duck. They gather all your books, box them, and charge your credit card when the process is complete. The Duck Store provides this service free of charge.

You can pick up your books after the indicated availability date at the campus Duck Store. Fall & winter terms, you can opt to have your books shipped to your address for an additional shipping & handling fee. REVIEW S&H FEES

Do I have to use Book Hunt in order to reserve my books online?
A
No.
Since BOOK HUNT and EARLY DUCK are two completely separate features, you do not have to use Book Hunt to reserve your books online. |
Q
Can I still reserve books online even if the CRN isn't in the Book Hunt database?
A
Yes.
Since BOOK HUNT and EARLY DUCK are two completely separate features, you do not have to use Book Hunt to reserve your books online. |
Q
When is Early Duck available?
A
Early Duck is available during FALL, WINTER & SPRING terms. There are too many irregular sessions to offer Early Duck during Summer term. We can ship your books during fall and winter terms but there is not enough time during the short spring break to offer you this service.
Q
Why is Early Duck only available for limited times throughout the year?
A
Because of the time it takes our staff to fill the large volume of Early Duck orders we receive, we can only offer Early Duck for a limited time each term. Early Duck is available after registration begins for fall, winter & spring terms and stays active until a few weeks before the first day of the upcoming term.

Q
Why don't I see my book list when I try to order my books through Early Duck?
A
Early Duck does not generate a book list for your classes at any point in the reservation process. When you are filling out the initial Early Duck reservation form, you select your preference for new or used books. The price of your Early Duck reservation will depend on whether or not you receive new or used books. Our staff is unable to determine an exact price for your reservation because of this factor.

If you are interested to see what books will be pulled for your order, you can use BOOK HUNT. This will give you the range of cost that may be billed to your charge card once your Early Duck reservation is complete.

Q
What if I do not see a shelf tag for my class?
A
There are a few different reasons why there may not be a shelf tag for your class when you come to buy your books:
- The books for your course were ordered late and have not yet arrived.
- The faculty member for your course has not yet ordered his/her books.
- The faculty member for your course ordered books from another bookstore.
- A book has been cancelled for your class.
In order to find out if we will be carrying your course book(s), speak with a representative at the Information Kiosk, located in the center of Literary Duck Department. Give us the name of your course and the professor and we will be able to give you the status of your book.

If there was a book order placed, we should be able to tell you when we expect to have the book in stock. If no book order was placed, attend the first class and your professor will be able to instruct you where to find the required course books for your class.

Q
What if there is a shelf tag for my course book but no books on the shelf?
A
If you find a shelf tag for your course but an empty shelf, this means that we have either sold all available in-store copies or the original order has not yet been received. To find out the status of your book(s), ask a representative at the Information Kiosk. We will be able to find out if we have additional copies of the course books at our Processing Center, or give you an estimate of when the books will arrive.

If we have sold out entirely, a representative at the Information Kiosk can assist you with placing a special order. You will be asked to fill out a form with your course and contact information. It usually takes 3-5 business days for a Special Order to arrive, at which time we will contact you and you can come pick up and pay for your special order.

Q
What is a guaranteed book?
A
A guaranteed book is a required course book. If a guaranteed book has sold out at our store, you can pre-pay for your copy and receive free photocopied chapters of reading material until your book arrives. This ensures that your studies are not disrupted while more books are ordered. We also pay for the books to be shipped via 2nd day air delivery so they arrive to the store as quickly as possible.

Q
How do I special order a course book if it has sold out?
A
If your course book has sold out, you can place a special order with a representative at the Information Kiosk. You will be asked to fill out a form with your course and contact information.
